These quotes come from the many who have written in to express this opinions, etc. on UIA. Not everyone that has written is quoted, not everyone is IDed, but I thank you for taking the time to write. These are in rough chronological order.
The only real negative quote I've ever received:
Sir, you and your cohorts need to shit down and shut-up. Your site is obtuse, poorly designed, lacks any serious augmenting aides, and generally is a poor representation of what the WWW can do. No Java, no animations, and you cater to every tiny niche browser. You are frankly incompetent pretenders to what real webmasters are.Well, gee thanks for that. The person must not have been very public, because he went to lengths to delete his name and such from the email (don't worry, if you're reading, I still know who you are, just not said anything :). To the guy's defense UIA wasn't on the bleeding edge, but, then again, I've always been more concerned about content then showing off.
And the rest of the quotes:
Read your comments re 'why ... glitz' --- thank you for understanding that the information content is more important than the immature need to 'show off / look at me, guys! oboy aren't I cool!!! / sorry your browser crashed, but EVERYbody knows you should be using Netscape/2/3/Gold/Windows 95/ftp/blah blah blah'
Just found out about your pages via Macworld Online e-mail. Came over to see what they were talking about. Read article about no glitz and I agreee whole heartedly with you. Glitz is pretty to look at; but I find too many sites going overboard with all of the animation etc. I have even had pages where it is hard to get out because there is so much activity going on. It is the information that is important to me. Look forward to digging in to the information you supply and will give you more feedback when I have become more familiar with what you offer. What I have seen so far looks great to me. Good job and keep up the good work.
I just said to my office mate that you are the most impressive person that I have come in contact with on the web. I have never had anyone respond to my inquiries before so quickly (if at all)! Thank you sooooooo much!
Thanks for setting this page up. It's really great to see pple actively expressing support for the mac.
Let me join the minimalists. Far too many web pages take forever to load (esp on my 14.4 system at home), adding images that add nice colors but little information.
Yeah! Just what I needed. Thanks to you and hotbot.
Great job! I was waiting for something like this from Apple and once again a third party comes through.
[I]'m so glad that info alley is finally in an easily readable HTML format, but-and I HATE to say this cause you are doing a great job otherwise, your graphics leave a little to be desired. I am mostly referring to your intial graphic - homesidebar.jpeg. It's nice BUT the white text is hard to read. If i were to make that graphic, i would have made the background lighter and the text darker, not just white because it just make it hard to read at such a small point size.
Yeah, he's right. But graphics are my big weakness.
Just wanted to let you know that I think your site is WOW! AMAZING! I can't believe you spent so much time doing all this. It looks great, and it's very useful. Much more pleasant than the Apple site! -Isabelle Laliberte (email@example.com)
Very very cool. Thank you for all the work I know this meant for you. It's a great service to Mac users.
